Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) has made a new announcement that Canada will continue to process temporary resident visa (TRV) applications submitted online as well as electronic travel authorization applications. (eTA) starts on June 9, 2020.
IRCC announces they will continue to handle TRV online as far as possible. Applications will be given priority to individuals currently eligible to travel based on current travel restrictions.
TRV applications submitted prior to travel restrictions will not be prioritized unless the applicant has contacted IRCC via email. When contacting IRCC, such individuals must explain how they are exempt from travel restrictions, why they travel to Canada for essential purposes and also provide IRCC acceptable documents.
In addition, IRCC will continue to manually process ETA records to the extent possible.
The IRCC notes the purpose of this is to help it cope with the expected increase in records once travel restrictions are lifted. The IRCC will expedite the processing of eTA applications as long as the applicant also meets the exemption criteria for current travel restrictions. Such individuals should also identify and submit documentation through IRCC's web form.
Due to the global coronavirus (COVID-19)pandemic, IRCC has accepted TRV and eTA applications but temporarily cannot handle them. This new announcement indicates that IRCC is seeking to normalize application processing to the best of its ability.
